Mobile Market Abbottabad 2026: Second Hand Mobiles and PTA Checks

PTA Abbottabad's IMEI-tampering raids, May 2025

Profit (Pakistan Today) reported on 24 May 2025 that PTA Abbottabad and NCCIA Abbottabad raided mobile phone repair shops near Sufi Hotel, Lorry Adda, Mansehra. Desktop computers and software used to modify IMEIs were seized and six people were arrested.

For Hazara buyers the lesson is simple. A repair counter that can 'fix' a PTA problem for a fee is offering to patch the IMEI. That is illegal under PECA 2016, according to The News, and a patched phone can be blocked later.

Service for China phones and Samsung near Abbottabad

Carlcare, the after-sales service brand for Tecno, Infinix and itel, lists Mansehra but not Abbottabad in its Pakistan service-centre finder (checked 3 October 2026). Airlink, which distributes Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno and itel, lists no Abbottabad partner on its where-to-buy page (checked 4 October 2026). Samsung's nearest Galaxy Consultants point is in Islamabad, at F-7 Markaz.

Stolen phone check in Abbottabad

Punjab's e-Gadget rules are for Punjab. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have their own eGadget KPK app, published by PITB, which the Play Store listing says is for phone shopkeepers to record every device they sell, buy or repair, so police can search stolen devices by IMEI. It is a shopkeeper tool, so ask the counter whether your sale is recorded, and do your own 8484 check.

PTA check before you buy a phone in Abbottabad

Check PTA status before you pay, not after. That applies to a phone from a market counter, a private seller, or a relative back from abroad.

Dial *#06# on the phone, match that IMEI to the box and the bill, then send the IMEI by SMS to 8484 before any money changes hands. The PTA status guide explains each reply. The News reported on 10 May 2024 that smuggled phones are 'patched' with duplicated or cloned IMEIs to get past PTA's DIRBS system, that patching is illegal under PECA 2016, and that PTA had blocked 35 million IMEIs by 30 December 2023. A patched phone can work today and be blocked later.

If a phone is non-PTA and you plan to register it yourself, look up the FBR amount in the PTA tax guide before you agree a price.

• Ask in plain words: PTA approved, non-PTA, or patched?
• Get a bill, or for a private sale a written note, with the IMEI, the price, the date and the seller's phone number.
• Put your own SIM in and make a call before you leave.
• For a second hand phone, test the screen, cameras, speakers, charging port and battery; the inspection guide has a checklist.

What we could not verify

We did not find official market timings, closed days, or a list of Abbottabad phone shops on a brand, distributor, government or major news page. We have not copied shop names from map or directory sites, and we do not print market prices we cannot source. Map sites name markets in Abbottabad; we have not found a news, brand or government source that confirms which ones are phone markets, so we do not name them.

What is the best mobile market in Abbottabad?
