Pick your phone or type its price in rupees to see the PTA tax on Passport and on CNIC.
Slabs converted at the current exchange rate, checked 21 October 2026. Estimate of the four FBR charges only; Customs uses its own value for your IMEI, so the DIRBS amount can differ. Always pay the DIRBS amount.
How this calculator works
It adds up the four charges in FBR's current laws: regulatory duty, sales tax, s.148 income tax and the mobile handset levy. Each depends on the price slab the phone falls in. FBR sets the slabs in foreign currency, so we convert them to rupees at the current exchange rate (checked 21 October 2026).
About the model list: FBR does not publish a PTA tax amount per model. When you pick a model we fill in a phone value: FBR's customs value for that model where FBR lists it (Valuation Ruling 2070/2026), otherwise the current non-PTA market price in Pakistan from public listings. DIRBS may value your IMEI differently, so you can change the price. On 31 August 2026 the Sindh High Court (SCRA No. 190/2026) suspended a Customs Appellate Tribunal judgment of 22 July 2026 about this ruling; FBR circulated the order in September 2026.
The full slab tables are on our PTA tax guide. To check whether a phone is already approved, see how to check PTA status.
FAQ
How is PTA tax calculated?
FBR charges four things when you register a phone in DIRBS: regulatory duty (fixed per price slab), sales tax (18% for phones worth up to about Rs 138,505, 25% above), s.148 income tax (fixed per slab, CNIC only) and the mobile handset levy (fixed per slab). The slab depends on the phone's value.
Why is PTA tax lower on Passport than on CNIC?
Phones brought in personal baggage do not pay the s.148 income tax (Income Tax Ordinance 2001, Second Schedule clause 60E). You must register within 60 days of arriving in Pakistan to use the passport route.
What is the PTA tax on an iPhone?
Pick the iPhone in the calculator. Recent iPhones are worth more than about Rs 138,505, so they fall in the highest slab with 25% sales tax. The PSID that DIRBS issues for your IMEI is the final amount.
Did PTA tax change in 2026?
Yes. The Finance Act 2026 (in force 1 July 2026) cut the income tax for phones worth about Rs 27,701 to Rs 55,402 from Rs 930 to Rs 100, and the handset levy in that slab from Rs 600 to Rs 200. FBR S.R.O. 1064(I)/2026 set new regulatory duty slabs from 1 July 2026.
Where do I pay PTA tax?
Go to dirbs.pta.gov.pk or dial *8484#, enter your CNIC or passport and the IMEI, get the PSID and pay it at a bank or by app within its validity. PTA runs registration; FBR sets the tax.
