Mobile Market Gujrat 2026: Second Hand Phones, Cloned Pixel Raids, PTA Checks

Where phones are sold in Gujrat

Profit (Pakistan Today) reported on 14 June 2025 that PTA's Lahore zonal office and NCCIA Gujranwala carried out three raids in Gujrat: on Gulzar-e-Madina Road (12 phones seized, two arrests), at Zaib Super Market (13 phones, one arrest) and at Kashmir Plaza (20 phones, three arrests). The seized phones included Google Pixel and OnePlus models whose IMEIs had been reprogrammed to match cheaper phones.

That does not make every shop in those places suspect. It does mean these are places where phones are sold, and where a too-cheap 'PTA approved' Pixel or OnePlus deserves a second look.

Shop with a published address

Airlink Communication's where-to-buy page (page last modified 27 March 2026, checked 4 October 2026) lists one Gujrat partner for the brands it distributes, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno and itel. It is not a ranking.

Stolen phone and cloned IMEI checks in Gujrat

Punjab Police's e-Gadget app, developed with the Punjab Information Technology Board and available on Android and iOS, lets you enter an IMEI to see whether it has been reported stolen or lost. Run it on any second hand phone, along with the 8484 check.

Then do the PTA check. If 8484 returns a different model from the phone in your hand, the IMEI has been changed. That was the trick in the June 2025 Gujrat raids.

Brand new China phones and Tecno, Infinix service

Carlcare, the after-sales service brand for Tecno, Infinix and itel, lists Gujrat in its Pakistan service-centre finder (checked 3 October 2026). Buying a brand new China phone from these brands with a bill makes the warranty usable locally. Samsung's Galaxy Consultants points are not in Gujrat; the nearest are in Lahore and Islamabad.

PTA check before you buy a phone in Gujrat

Phones brought from abroad by family are common gifts; whoever brings it, check its PTA status before you treat it as usable on a Pakistani SIM.

Dial *#06# on the phone, match that IMEI to the box and the bill, then send the IMEI by SMS to 8484 before any money changes hands. The PTA status guide explains each reply. The News reported on 10 May 2024 that smuggled phones are 'patched' with duplicated or cloned IMEIs to get past PTA's DIRBS system, that patching is illegal under PECA 2016, and that PTA had blocked 35 million IMEIs by 30 December 2023. A patched phone can work today and be blocked later.

If a phone is non-PTA and you plan to register it yourself, look up the FBR amount in the PTA tax guide before you agree a price.

• Ask in plain words: PTA approved, non-PTA, or patched?
• Get a bill, or for a private sale a written note, with the IMEI, the price, the date and the seller's phone number.
• Put your own SIM in and make a call before you leave.
• For a second hand phone, test the screen, cameras, speakers, charging port and battery; the inspection guide has a checklist.
